AN ANCIENT MONUMENT OF REMARKABLE DESIGN
We love sharing this Neolithic henge set among high moorland, often regarded as the region’s most significant prehistoric site. Around 50 fallen white limestone slabs form a striking ring around a rare central stone ‘cove’, found only at truly sacred places. Together with the surrounding earth bank and ditch, it gives us all a powerful sense of ancient ceremonial life.

Camping visitors
For people riding bikes or travelling in cars, we also provide a small idyllic camping area for people wishing to camp in tents.
Sheltered by trees and safe from potential flooding and running water, this is a great way to experience the local area and community.

NEARBY MOUNDS AND A DEEPER SENSE OF HISTORY
We also recommend exploring Gib Hill, an impressive burial mound just beyond the main circle that adds even more historical depth. For those keen to see more, there’s the Nine Ladies Stone Circle, a smaller Bronze Age site, and Hob Hurst’s House, a burial chamber a short distance away, each offering its own fascinating glimpse into the prehistoric past.
MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR DAY OUT
We welcome dogs on leads but always remind guests to keep an eye out for grazing animals. If you’re planning to use a drone, please do check the local guidance first. For those wanting to see more, we love recommending nearby sites like Nine Ladies Stone Circle and several other Neolithic sites in the local area
